Remote, Open to Canadian Residents Only

Full-Time

$100,000–$140,000

About GameSheet

GameSheet is one of North America’s leading sports technology platforms, helping leagues, associations, teams, officials, and administrators manage competitions more efficiently. Our platform powers scheduling, live scoring, statistics, standings, league operations, and digital experiences used across amateur and professional sports organizations throughout Canada and the United States. We are passionate about building technology that improves the experience for sports organizations, game officials, administrators, and participants. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for talented individuals who want to help shape the future of sports technology.

Role Summary

As a Mobile Software Engineer, you will work closely with our Product, Engineering, and QA teams to design, build, and maintain the mobile applications that power game scoring, league operations, statistics, and real-time sports experiences.

Our scoring apps are offline-first, natively built — iOS and iPad in Swift, Android in Kotlin — backed by on-device databases that keep scoring working reliably in arenas with poor connectivity. They are supported by lightweight TypeScript backend-for-frontend (BFF) services that you will also help build and own, integrating with our cloud APIs. This means the role spans native client development, local-data/sync architecture, and a meaningful amount of TypeScript service work — not pure client-only development.

Because we operate as a lean, highly collaborative engineering organization, we’re looking for someone who enjoys ownership, takes initiative, and is comfortable contributing across multiple areas of the product.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain native mobile applications for iOS/iPad (Swift) and Android (Kotlin)
  • Build new features and enhancements from concept through production release
  • Improve application performance, reliability, and usability
  • Implement responsive and intuitive user experiences for sports organizations and end users
  • Participate in architecture and technical design discussions

Offline-First & Data

  • Build and maintain offline-first features backed by on-device databases — Room (Android), GRDB (iOS), and Realm (iPad)
  • Design local data models and manage schema migrations as features evolve
  • Implement cache-first rendering and reconciliation/sync between the local store and backend services so scoring works seamlessly offline and online

Platform & Services Integration

  • Integrate mobile applications with internal APIs and cloud-based services
  • Help build and own lightweight TypeScript BFF services (e.g. on serverless/edge runtimes) that mediate between the apps and backend gateways
  • Implement authentication, authorization, push notifications, and analytics instrumentation / event tracking
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to design and consume scalable APIs, and align on wire formats and contracts

Quality & Delivery

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and mobile release processes
  • Support App Store and Google Play release management activities

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and Engineers
  • Contribute to planning, estimation, and delivery discussions
  • Share knowledge and help improve engineering practices across the team
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional mobile development experience
  • Production experience with native mobile development — Swift (iOS) and/or Kotlin (Android) — including shipping apps to the App Store and/or Google Play
  • Experience building offline-first applications backed by a client-side database (Room, GRDB/SQLite, Realm, Core Data, or similar), including schema migrations and local/remote sync
  • Strong understanding of mobile application architecture and design patterns
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and working with backend services
  • Working proficiency with TypeScript or JavaScript (you’ll contribute to our BFF services, not just consume them)
  • Experience with Firebase / Firestore (real-time data, auth, or analytics)
  • Experience with Git and collaborative software development workflows
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or owning BFF / lightweight backend services in TypeScript on serverless or edge runtimes (e.g. Cloudflare Workers, Cloud Run)
  • Experience building applications that support real-time data updates (e.g. live scoring)
  • Experience implementing push notifications
  • Experience with mobile analytics and crash reporting (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics)
  • Experience with mobile testing frameworks and automation
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Familiarity with sports technology, statistics, scoring, or event management systems
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development tools as part of day-to-day workflow
  • Experience with React Native / Expo — a small set of white-label apps use it; this is a secondary, occasional part of the role, not the primary stack

Our Engineering Culture

At GameSheet, we value practical problem solving, collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning.

Our engineering team actively leverages modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed. We encourage experimentation, innovation, and thoughtful use of technology to solve customer problems.

We believe great products are built by empowered teams that move quickly, communicate openly, and take pride in their work.

Why Join GameSheet?

  • Opportunity for growth and increased ownership

  • Proven experience building and maintaining automated tests for web, API, and/or mobile applications
  • Proficiency with a modern programming language such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or similar
  • Experience with automated UI and/or API testing frameworks
  • Comfort reading application code and working closely with developers
  • Experience with Git and collaborative software development workflows
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to investigate root causes, not just reproduce issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative remote engineering environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Playwright or other modern web automation frameworks
  • Experience with mobile test automation such as Appium, Maestro, XCUITest, Espresso, Detox, or similar
  • Experience validating REST APIs, OpenAPI contracts, and backend services
  • SQL and data-validation experience
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, or similar CI/CD tools
  • Experience testing applications with real-time, live, or event-driven data
  • Experience with Firebase, Crashlytics, PostHog, or similar analytics and observability tools
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development and testing tools
  • Familiarity with sports technology, statistics, scoring systems, or event management platforms

Our Engineering Culture

At GameSheet, we value practical problem solving, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.

We believe quality is a shared responsibility across Product, Engineering, and QA. Strong quality practices help us move faster, reduce risk, and deliver better experiences for the leagues, officials, administrators, and teams that rely on our software.
