We are thrilled to announce the four deserving recipients of the 2024 GameSheet Scorekeeper Scholarships: Eli Lock, Matthew Brosens, Joey Belanger, and Abigail Schum. These outstanding young individuals have demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to the game, and we are confident that they will excel in their future endeavors at their chosen post-secondary institutions. We are proud to be part of their journey.
We also want to extend our gratitude to the more than 150 well-qualified applicants. Selecting the recipients was a challenging task, as all of you were deserving. We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming school year.
Eli Lock
Eli is a dedicated and passionate official and scorekeeper from Gore Bay, Ontario. For the past 4 years, Eli has served as an official and timekeeper in the MMHA, NOHA and in his home town of Gore Bay. Eli first used GameSheet 2 years ago, both as a scorekeeper and an official, and has appreciated its user-friendly layout and ease of use. Eli will continue his education at Canadore College, where he will study Trade Fundamentals.
Mathew Brosens
Matthew is a hardworking and enthusiastic young man from Fredericton, New Brunswick. Several years ago, Matthew was asked to timekeep for Junior C games in Tri-County, a role he has embraced ever since. Over the past 4 years, he has used GameSheet extensively, finding it significantly easier to use than paper game sheets. He works tirelessly, handling 5 games per week and appreciates the system’s improved flow, especially when managing multiple penalties. Next year, Matthew will advance his education at the University of New Brunswick, pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering.
Joey Belanger
Joey is an exemplary young athlete from Rhinelander, Wisconsin, known for his commitment and enthusiasm as a referee. He consistently demonstrates reliability and leadership on and off the ice. Joey’s attention to detail and proactive attitude have set him apart, making him a standout candidate for the 2024 GameSheet Scorekeeper Scholarship. Joey’s enthusiasm for the game and his strong work ethic are evident in everything he does. He has been an integral part of his community’s sports scene, contributing positively and inspiring others with his dedication. Joey will be continuing his studies next year at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in their Electrical Power Distribution program.
Abigail Schum
Hailing from Littleton, Colorado, Abigail has made a significant impact through her dedication and involvement in the sport. Over the past 3 years, she has actively participated in various tournaments while also traveling with the Team Colorado AAA U19 team. Abigail has honed her skills scorekeeping for NGHL tournaments and finds GameSheet to be a highly effective tool, appreciating its advantages over paper scoring and previous platforms. Abigail recently graduated from Chatfield Senior High School and will soon embark on her college journey at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she will pursue NCAA Division III Hockey and Biology.
